Arriving in Argentina -- Goooaalllll

After a surprisingly quick 15 hour trip, including a 2 hour layover in Atlanta, we arrived in Buenos Aires at 9am. (we are 5 hours ahead of Los Angeles). We arrived at our small boutique hotel, The Malabia House, which is a converted turn of the century womens convent. Check in wasn't until 3pm, but we had already booked tickets with a guided group to see Argentina vs. Bolivia in a world cup qualifier match. We were shuttled with a motley crew of americans, italians, argentinians and chileans...

Kept moving onto the Design Center, then a GIANT silver flower which opens and closes daily. Its mastermind to move with photvoltaic cells and water, just as a real flower gets its energy. Quite ingenious. All around this park were trees made from recycled cartons, making for some colorful christmas trees!

For the finale, we ended at the Art Museum. It was ...

A legitimate Turkey Day in BsAs!?

... stressful and time consuming, but the experience was incredible. The friendships I have made through it and the feedback I have gotten from various students has made it WAY more than I could have ever asked for.

I have just finished with all of my classes and finals (thank goodness, no more disorganized South America university to deal with!!) and I’ve gotten my grades back all of which I am very
happy about. Tomorrow I am leaving to go on a ...

... just happened to only know one person in Northampton who just happened to be Amy K! We went to probably the most underground club I've ever been to, it just looked like a house from the outside. The main room didn't open till 3am, me Jack and Luke left about half 6 and Lizzie strolled in at 8:45....ready to check out at 10am. Pretty hardcore night!! But we still managed to get our acts together to get tickets for a La Boca football game on Sunday evening. That has ...

BA - a love hate relationship!

... the English debated about whether it was possible to see the dancers "rat" or not! Work it out kids! The word rat was catapulted into new heights! "Get your rat out" horrified our American friends (to be discussed later - they were awesome), even more so when it replaced the lyrics of the Basement Jaxx number, "where's your head at!?". When the wine dried up, the champers was put on tap for a good messy night in BA! Toilet roll was called upon for costume and within ...

Still in Buenos Aires...

... of our school buddies Max had just finished his 12th week of school (all credit to him, we stuggled with three weeks), and had one weekend left before returning home to Germany.. so obviously we had to celebrate with him! First up was a dinner of make-it-yourself fajitas at Buller´s Microbrewery, which we washed down with a few pints of their own Honey Beer (and at 8% it went down suprisingly well). Next up was drinks at the house of Max´s friend, then it ...

... weathly family shrines. We didn't get chance to go in the cemetery, so we will probably come back and do this when we go to the Evita museum next week. Avenue 9 de Julio - Claims to be the World's widest avenue, and to be fair it is wider than most streets are long. Only thing is, it is actually three streets in one, so it's not a single wide avenue! Blummin' Argies cheating again....I wonder if Maradona was involved somehow ...

In the late 1990s, with years of low inflation and strong growth, a wealth of natural resources, a highly educated and literate population, a strong farm export sector and for other optimistic economic reasons, Argentina was billed by Western banks and investors as the next greatest thing and ...

... person had one, and I must say that the dogs were well behaved, which is more than can be said for their owners who let them **** all over the pavements! The pavements were littered; you don't so much walk along the pavement, as do the "Argentinean Pavement Tango". When it rains the pavements turn into skating rinks - Yuk! They have even have professional dog walkers who can be seen leading half a dozen assorted pooches around - and the dogs don't fight ...
