the Tesco Kidz

The Tesco Kidz We piled onto the 7;45 AM train at haumphalong Station with a few dozen other travelers, mostly Thai, but perhaps 8 other falangs. There were 2 cars on this single daytrain to the south. It is curious because there are probably 10 trains leaving each night. It was an 8 1/2 hour trip for $13 each. Air Conditioned with 2 trolley services: a snack and lunch. We watched the scenery roll by. First rice paddies, then as we turned South through the Isthmus of Kra, rubber tree and palm...

heading inland

Sawasdee ka, we are now off the islands, in fact we were ready to move, it was getting way too touristy in Samui for us, it was feeling like it isnt the real Thailand, which it isnt really as they cater for the tourist and the prices are tourist as well..However we did have a good time particularly in our thatched huts right on the beach.we went on a trip to a national park(a group of beautiful islands) and it was lovely, amazing views (worth the sweat up to get it) and lovely to see it still...

Surat Thani: Golden Gate to the Beaches!

... of me was well-entertained and asked me several questions to practice their English. And later I fell sound asleep on my bag for 5-6 hours. I awoke at 3am and met a lady from Chumphon, Peodum, who was going to Koh Samui too. We talked for many hours, we arrived in Surat Thani and we took the bus from Surat Thani to Raja ferry pier together munching on homemade Durian fruit chips along the way that her mother had made at their plantation. Yum yum!

Swinging in the rainforest

Krabi to Koh Samui Pt 2

... 56½. I nearly ended up sleeping with the Austrian on the other side, it was getting a bit cosy. We spoke to the Austrians next to us, Kinga and her boyfriend 'Junior' (who never let on his real name, hmm....). 7 hours later (6am just for a time-check), we arrived at Koh Samui harbour, looking a bit bleary-eyed (there is photographic evidence, but conveniently only of me). Hattie stated that she didn't want to be pictured at this delicate time.

Day 88 Pt.2: Back to the Mainland

... sick. Night market dinner was light but tasty overall. Back at the train station, now much later, we used our rucksacks as backrests and lounged about on the concrete chatting amiably. The hour struck 9:30 and a train rumbled in, but it was not ours. This was the 8pm one running an hour and a half late, which assuming Thailand doesn't have much money to double or triple track their rail network, probably meant ours would be equally delayed ...

31 Jan - Chaiya - Suan Mokk International Meditati

Took train to Chaiya. No taxis at train station so had to get rides on scooter taxis. A bit reluctant at first given the fact we were wearing packs, and our experiences with the other taxis in Thailand, but the drivers smelt our fear and were very considerate, getting us there in one piece. 10 days silent meditation at Buddhist retreat. Anapanasati meditation as taught by the late Buddhadasa Bhikkihu who founded the centre and adjoining monastery. Bathing ...
