    ... canal the longest man made canal in the world, (1900km), hand dug by millions of people through forced labour some 15 hundred years ago it stretches all the way to Beijing.

    ... censorship...watching BBC world news (as you do in hotel rooms) and a report comes on about the death of journalist Sue Lloyd-Roberts. In the middle of the report the words 'her coverage of repression in China' coupled with pictures of men being led away by soldiers. This was all that was shown (about 2seconds) before the TV went blank!!!!! 30 seconds later the TV came back on further into the report with no more mention of China. We were really shocked ...

    ... phone so all and all it wasn’t too bad.

    By the time we got into Shanghai it was about 7pm but we still had to ride 40minutes on the subway back to our hostel, which was definitely not as good as the bullet train as we were all really tired and hungry.
