We have been relaxing in California for the last week with 5 nights in the Napa Valley enjoying the wineries and lovely warm weather. Paul got lucky with a day at the Nascar races in Sonoma, and then we spent a couple of days at the beach in Carmel. There was an old couple who we kept getting put with us for meals, she was very frail and he was quite deaf, she would speak to him very softly and he had no idea that she was even talking to him. They had a roomette too and he put her in to top bunk, which did have a safety net to hold you in, when she had to get up in the night to go to the toilet she had to bang ...

Thankfully, I was not the only one making this commute. On the escalators I met an American catching the same flight as me. While waiting for the bus we got talking and seemed to have a fair bit in common; we were both heading to San Francisco, both tired, and both hungry.
