... br>
16/10
The island of Bali has been very restful after a long and sometimes uncertain trip. On now to yet another country via Bangkok International (our last before we return). We shall leave with some mixed feelings - missing the lovely warm environment, less so the chaos of the roads but yearning now for the excitment of meeting friends and loved ones again and to claim our new life back home to fulfill our plans, after so long away.

Bali, Bali, Indonesia paulngail... bars. Balinese food is to die for and incredibly cheap; local dishes for no more than three pound and a steak, for example, for about a fiver. Beer is one pound. The night before we left for Ubud I stayed up 'til 4am and watched the Chelsea/Barca match and had to graciously admit defeat to two of the most smug spaniards i'll ever come across (should have had an early night!).
Sanur, Bali, Indonesia stephen.j.booth... will become commonplace to me. I hate it. No matter how much I love traveling and meeting new people, it always comes at a price. I will always have to say goodbye to them at the end. The only good thing about them is that you know how much you actually care about the person in direct relation to how hard it is to say bye to them. We didn't speak all that much on the drive; no, we just looked out over the countryside passing beside us: watching children play in ...
Ubud, Bali, Indonesia snclark8... one point, I saw a pair of ****** sunglasses I liked and was told the price was US$24. I gave the guy a big, incredulous smile which he returned. "Okay, sorry. Sorry. That is Japanese tourist price." I ended up paying $3 and the seller probably still made a profit of $2.75. Others in service-oriented industries, like the airport baggage handler who ran off towards the taxi stand with my rucksack before I had the chance to refuse, are very upfront about ...
Cosa? No, non e' possibile. Ne fermo un altro. Sempre le nove. A quanto pare lo spettacolo e' effettivamente durato un'ora e mezza, solo che io me ne sono perso un'ora. Com'e' potuto succedere? Torno alla ...
Ubud, Bali, Indonesia planetvale... up the tank at the many road side stalls selling 1 liter bottles of gas. The first day we went to the southern peninsula Bukit to find some remote beach we could enjoy, but instead we found a hindu temple, which was nice too. We also discovered a sort of a beach (more rocks than sand) with the whole surfers' village on top of the rocks. In one afternoon we went all the way to the north to see the Batur and Abang volcanoes, stopping at different nice ...
Sanur, Bali, Indonesia aguas... aside, I found myself hypnotized by their striking style of dance. While dancing to the hauntingly beautiful music they move their heads in a very side to side Hindu traditional style. But it's those Balinese eyes that suck you in. Their heads will snap in one direction suddenly and then the eyes will fire a sudden stare off in another direction where they finish with this sort of severe stare that is just indescribable. Needless to say, I was impressed. After a lengthy drive, the ...
Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia nomadic1The journey to the Gili Islands took quite a while. As we left Kuta, one of the large suitcases that had been stowed behind a seat fell into the staircase, smacking into Kirsty's ankle on the way. She was alright, but not exactly pleased, especially as it was the ankle that she had injured in Queenstown. The bus took us to the port town of Padang Bai. We were all herded off and told that we would need to be back at ...
Padang Bai, Indonesia jacobandkirsty... I am staying there ( my towel was a different color than the rest of the guests) I explain myself, and am left alone the rest of the afternoon. The hawkers trying to sell you things are lined along the beach too, but they didnt come onto the hotels property , so my day is peaceful. I have not run into any Americans so far, my driver in says he has had very few. In this mornings Bali times that I read at breakfast, they said that hotels report occupancy is up to 58 percent last month ...
Sanur, Indonesia elizacass... everywhere and they politely offer you a ride, and are so gracious when you decline. Another thing I wanted to comment on is the level of respect and kindness everyone here has. Every time I catch a strangers eye in a glance, it is ALWAYS met with the biggest happiest smile you can imagine (unless it's a tourist, blah, why don't they catch the fever too? I have!) But it's more than that, it's more than being polite, it's like the ...
