No.200 Shanxi Road South Shanghai, Shanghai, China, 200001, 021-63222888

we're actually in Xiamen. Finally got wi-fi to work. Day 1 - BNE - HK - Shanghai Never done this leave in the middle of the night thing. Booked cab for 9.45pm even though didn't really have to be a the airport till 10.50. Cab took less than 20mins to airport so there just after 10. No queues, no point in waiting upstairs so went down through immigration and waited and waited and bought grog to pick up on way back in and waited. Boarded on time, took off maybe 10mins late. Don't know what I wa...
Shanghai, Shanghai, China aussiepandaTuesday Aug 15. We arrive at 11AM in Suzhou and go from the train station to our hotel. Then a walking tour. It is a very nice city with many canals and gardens and trees. Still very hot and humid and no blue sky! The walking tour takes us through hutongs areas where people seem to live quite happily in very decrepit surroundings. We took a gondola ride along the canals and had the Chinse operator sing a Chines ballad as we went. We passed houses where people were using their sinks and the wa...
Shanghai, China cankiwiThe mercurial form of Shanghai loomed up in front of us in the Tuesday morning mist. Dazed after another restless 17 hour trans-China train journey, we stumbled and bundled our bags in to the Nanjing Hotel, situated in the prime shopping district of the city. After an ever interesting ordination to the city from Stu, the travelling trio spent the rest of the day subsidising infinite number of Mcdonalds in the region and scoping out the bourgeoisie and economic growth capital of the East. Stro...
Shanghai, China eppers_on_tourWe were not originally suppose to venture to Shanghai on our adventure, but the earthquake's changes allowed us to make it to this economic hub and great Chinese city. We were glad because now we will have visited Shanghai too. We arrived around 1 pm on our over night train and took a minibus to the hotel. We stayed right off Nanjing Road, which is one of the main shopping and pedestrian streets in the city. You could walk right out our hotel door and be offered "rolex, purses, and socks" by ...
Shanghai, Shanghai, China laytonandjanaThe group arrived into Shanghai at 11am after a fairly comfortable 11 hour train trip... I'm getting used to them. I slept reasonably well. On this trip, I took the middle bunk which has turned out to be my favourite. On arrival in Shanghai, I was awe struck by the streets being filled with people... there are 13 million people here, and I instantly felt it. We arrived at our hotel, the Nanjing Hotel, about 25 minutes walk from the Bund. After checking in, Ciao took us for a walk through the ...

This is the first time Fang is on a long haul overseas holiday without me, which is a true celebration of her grown up independence. I am proud of you, my darling baby girl.
... of 2 hours circling the neighborhood pointing to a picture of a synagogue and attempting to ask directions. We got pointed in every which way if people recognized it at all. To this day, it's a mystery if the place even exists or if some sick employees at Fodor's decided to send Jews (knowing they'd want to seek out other Jews) on a wild goose chase. Defeated, we ended up at Starbucks, and you can look out for a picture of us commemorating our efforts to make our Jewish mothers proud.
Shanghai, Shanghai, China rachaelb... more space than the students have. Water from the shower is hot instantly and the flow of water is strong. Actually a better shower than I have at home - except for the funky smell of the water. The commode is typical western style (many of the public - and non-public - commodes are of the squat variety). The water flow is not great, but it gets the job done. The room has good natural light and an operational air conditioner. There is also a small water dispenser that ...
Shanghai, China dcroasdell... i would still prefer a normal North Carolina fish fry! West Street is filled with eating choices. There is even a French restaurant in the middle of town that sits in a converted Buddhist Monastery. Although I never ate there, it was packed with European tourist every time I walked by so it couldn't be that bad. I was sad to leave Yangshuo and Guilin after only 3 days. But I was glad to experience two of the most beautiful cities in the world tucked away in Southern China.
