we're actually in Xiamen. Finally got wi-fi to work. Day 1 - BNE - HK - Shanghai Never done this leave in the middle of the night thing. Booked cab for 9.45pm even though didn't really have to be a the airport till 10.50. Cab took less than 20mins to airport so there just after 10. Tuesday Aug 15. We arrive at 11AM in Suzhou and go from the train station to our hotel. Then a walking tour. It is a very nice city with many canals and gardens and trees. We were not originally suppose to venture to Shanghai on our adventure, but the earthquake's changes allowed us to make it to this economic hub and great Chinese city. The group arrived into Shanghai at 11am after a fairly comfortable 11 hour train trip... I'm getting used to them. I slept reasonably well. ... more space than the students have. Water from the shower is hot instantly and the flow of water is strong. Actually a better shower than I have at home - except for the funky smell of the water. ... i would still prefer a normal North Carolina fish fry! West Street is filled with eating choices. There is even a French restaurant in the middle of town that sits in a converted Buddhist Monastery. Although I never ate there, it was packed with European tourist every time I walked by so it couldn't be that bad. I was sad to leave Yangshuo and Guilin after only 3 days. But I was glad to experience two of the most beautiful cities in the world tucked away in Southern China.
