Next we walked towards the outskirts of the medina, where the leather tanners are. Because of the smell, the tanners are on the outer perimeter of the medina- and for good reason. That smell of the tallow of aged meat is strong, similar to the smell you would expect from the cuttings barrel in an old butcher shop. ... best way to indulge this request, doable but not so easy in a Muslim country. We opted not to put them to the trouble in the end and settled for tea and coffee instead.

Everyone was very happy with their purchases at the end of the day. Looking forward to the next adventure tomorrow when we head for the desert. Hopefully we'll be able to post some photos then, technical difficulties at the moment.

... man (no idea his name – it was far too ************ounce) showed me how they watered the clay and let it bake in the sun for a day. Then he took me to the artisan room where men were shaping the clay into pots and other earthenware. Next up was the wood fired kiln and finally the painters (who had the steadiest hands I had ever seen). After the paint was applied, the pottery was put back in the kiln to be fired. It was actually ...
