Just Making Miles

Not much to report today. We drove from Austin to Beaumont, Texas in just under four hours with only a ten-minute stop for tea and restrooms. Not that we're in a hurry, but Lulu planned it that way so we could watch the Netherlands play Argentina in the three 'o clock game (we're in Central time now) in our hotel room. After the disappointing game, we ...

We had planned to have continental breakfast at the hotel around 8:30, but we were running a little late. Breakfast ended at 9:00, but the lady at the hotel brought some food out for us even though it was 8:55. We thought 9:00 was early for breakfast to end, but at least we got something.

I had driven my car out while Bob towed the car so we could go back home.

This is the first stop in Texas. The picture is of a bunch of Latino kids in soccer practice adjacent to the train station. It is probably fitting for the new Texas that they say is turning brown and blue. Some characters on the train today. A woman who was loudly protesting that the stop at Lafayette, LA was not a "smoke stop". She was having a really hard time going more than ...

Getting acquainted

The rest of the month of November, I spent time outside of work trying to meet people, get acquainted with the area, and rebuild a life. A couple of co-workers hosted dinners at their houses, then went out to a honky tonk dancefloor after. I went the second time, and it was surprisingly ok. It was interesting to observe the dancers, some good, some not. I noticed one or two old couples, who had probably been going there for ...
