Hurry Hurry Hurry

... car a little, the rush of packing and getting firstly onto Hamilton Island a week earlier, then the mornings events had left a bit of a mess, not to mention the thousands of bugs and the mountain of dust on the car.

An hour or so later, Rocky was a lot cleaner, I had finished the beer, our gear was packed up for the month and I was sitting on my work bag waiting for a cab so that I too could fly away for work.......
Camping by the beach

... br>
Once John got used to the idea that there wouldnt be a movie night as promised, we settled into the kombi and i think John fell asleep at 7pm. Sarina Beach is a very pretty beach and really should have a caravan park there - there is a magic site across the road from the beach that would make a fab caravan park - maybe in 10 years when we go back there will be one there.

We woke up in the morning and started to head for our next destination - 1770/Agnes Waters.

Quirks and Quibbles

... a tiny group in a huge room.

The second quirk was that the session had, for some unknown reason, been scheduled for lunchtime, so the teacher told me that the students were going to be bringing their lunch into the room with our electrical equipment, hands-on domes and display board. Yes, and I would happily spend my afternoon wiping mayonnaise and fruit juice off all my equipment. I ...

6.00pm - Friday The 13th

... iPod (unsurprisingly) ran out of battery after one song, and I couldn't find anything but country music on the radio. Oh, and when I got back? There were no free machines for me to do my laundry in. So while it's not been a dreadful day, it's been full of small annoyances. Good old Friday 13th, eh? I'm now waiting for a washer to become available so that I can have some clean pants to put on. Clean pants will be the first step on the way to a brighter tomorrow!

Crikey, We're Dumb!!

... Going on a boardwalk hike through the rainforest and seeing a wild wombat (or maybe it was just a wild pig). Since Tracy didn't get a picture of it, I'm going with the wombat. Also, in what is happening with disturbing regularity, we saw another giant spider...nothing like a nature walk to freak all the girls out!; · Getting to sweat our way through 120% humidity in the rainforest. [I know the math doesn't quite work but I'm trying to paint a ...

Near miss with a roo and some other odd fauna

Camilla Beach/Mackay

... closest to town, and I thought it would be nice to be able to leave the van all set up and just walk rather than packing everything up. It still ended up being a walk in, that's why we took the bus on the way back! heh heh) Mackay only has like 2 buildings over 2 stories and lots of shops and restaurants. They have a really nice river that runs along one side of town and looks really refreshing (totally wanted to jump in!) and no sign of crocodiles! And a nice walkway ...

Tis the season

... wonderful! We had a great time and went to Byron Bay (total hippie town, on the beach). It is the New Age mecca of Australia, followed closely by it's lesser known Nimbin (where all things are legal). So, I got my hippie fix- eating at Harry Krishna cafes, frequenting coffeeshops, going to bookstores and crystal shops and talking to random people about numerology, and lots and lots of dreadlocks. Oh, how I miss the dirty dreadlocks, for me ...

Van journeys entry 1

... we get up at around 9 and have our crunchy nut cornflakes then unplug the van (we have a fridge and we bought a fan having spent one agonising night in Palm Cove with all the doors open (there was no breeze and it was like being in a sauna) - we got eaten alive by mosquitos). We usually do 200km a day and stop at lots of nice little places ...

Mackay

Saturday, 8th September, 2007 (written by Suzanne) Driving to Mackay We packed up this morning and goodbye to Michael and Carol and headed off to Mackay which is about 300kms north east. It should only take about 3 hours - hopefully. It was a non eventful trip except for the droving cattle up the highway. We noticed how the landscape changed from gravelly soil which is no good for ...
