... invited the boys 9 and 12 years old for a swim with our kids. Cruising is the only place where you would allow your kids to leave with total stranger you just met for 5 minutes to go swimming on someone else’s boat. I love the cruising community!

Another day, another port. The Dominican Republic is the eastern side of the island of Hispaniola. The western side is Haiti. We docked at a port called La Romana. There are a few different things you can do here. We chose to visit some caves call Cueva de las Miravillas (the cave of miracles). It was a great option because we got to see a bit of the countryside, we had a very good taxi driver who told us a bit about the island life ...

... to take us from Consuelito to Vasca, which is a different way to get there than I have ever taken. We noticed menacing rain clouds, so we knew we had to be quick if we were going to get back to the road before we got soaked! (Dominicans don't ever go out in the rain...I think they think it's like acid!)

... one from 8-12, another from 1-5 or 2-6, and a last one from 6-10 at night. Most students attend either the morning or the afternoon session, but the 6-10 classes are offered to those students who have to work during the day to help their families survive, or who are taking care of sick or elderly family members while others are at work during the day, etc. My classes are always in the morning timeslot, which could not have worked out better ...
