San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic carlosjeremy... has had some tests done over the last few months, but just found out a couple of days ago that it is a tumour, which is causing swelling in one of the ventricles in his brain. If you look more closely, you can see the swelling of the ventricle quite easily behind his right ear...I had just never noticed it in class before. He had been complaining of headaches for the last few weeks, but I didn't really think anything of ...
San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic hmaclean... down a few little things so that I could stack some of my clothes, have a place for a lamp and my computer, a place to put my toiletries, etc. The clothes that I use less often I have under the bed in a duffel bag, and I pull it out when I need to. It's not ideal, but it will do in a pinch! I also really like the view that I have. I am behind the high school in Consuelo, so there is a large green field, and I can see them playing basketball or practicing for ...

It wasn't built as you see in the pictures all at once...this is a product of gradually working at it over the last 6 years. But, as you can see, it is spectacular. Knowing her previous career background, you can understand how they can live is a place like this. You may think that she has it made, but she actually doesn't have any money anymore. Why, you ask? Well, 2 years ago, she got shot in the neck by a ...
Juan Dolio, Dominican Republic hmaclean... 4 or 5 times before I could say it properly (at this point, I'm sweating bullets and am completely mortified!). I started to also say that I am happy to present this banner on behalf of my club, but no one heard this, because everyone just started clapping...probably to put themselves (and me) out of their misery of listening to me! The governor also presented me with her banner, and the district pin. Their motto for this year is "make dreams a reality." In the ...
San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic hmaclean... this morning (Cindy has a bad cold, and Elena has a very sore hip), but the aunts and uncles gathered in the living room with Elena and conducted a little prayer service amongst themselves, and then turned on the TV to sing some hymns. It was very nice to listen to them praying, although I didn't know what they were praying for... What I need to work on: - NOT throwing the toilet paper in the toilet. The septic systems here ...

However the hour and a half of English I teach Monday through Firday to the older students isn't nearly as rough and we actually are making progress. Of course if I don't enunciate every syllable they are completely lost, but there really are some hardworking, motivated students and I am convinced that after two years they will at least be at a conversational level ...
Cacique, Dominican Republic bradleyhaas... the ********** the garden. I cannot wait to start one in my community. I would start a garden project because of the lack of and availability of vegetables. The children who need the most nutrients are deprived. I do not know whether I will start a chicken or rabbit project to increase the amount of protein. I will have to adapt myself to seeing them as food and not an animal (I am talking about have to kill them and cook). However, this is not happening anytime soon. I went into ...
