... German World War One flag, the black cross on the white background, with an eagle in one corner. Maybe a reunion? No, don't be silly, they would all be about a hundred. I peered in. They WERE all about a hundred. I beat a hasty retreat before they beat out of me the fact that my granddad built Spitfires (yes, it's true) and my dad was in the RAF. Leg it, I thought. So here I am on a pleasant warm evening, typing up this rubbish. Hope it is of interest to some of you. More to come tomorrow!
Fürstenau, Germany shanemhewitt... t get the results back until July, but we are hoping they did well. The Class of ’08 had their graduation ceremony yesterday which was the first ever graduation of the school. We used a lot of the USA traditions, with the cap and gowns and other things, which they do not do here in Germany. The sharing and mixing of cultures keeps us on our toes all the time! In the evening we had a party (and of course were able to have some beer with ...
Weimar, Thuringia, Germany robconr... as two of the office support staff announced that they were leaving for new opportunities. I had no clue that this was going to happen, and by looking around at the faces in the room could see the same look on all of the male faces in the room. Apparently the women had been gossiping for weeks about the impending change which I thought was hilariously stereotypical. But it is very interesting how an international school works ...
Weimar, Thuringia, Germany robconr... Of course there were a few things to grade and prepare for school, but that’s nothing new! By the time Monday rolled around, I was ready to get back to work, and perhaps even felt inspired. Since the week was to involve the lunar eclipse, we were planning to wake up early and show up at the school before sunrise. The plan was to watch the eclipse from the top of the school and then have some snacks and a presentation. Well, unfortunately the ...
Weimar, Thuringia, Germany robconr... on the internet they were referring to the travel crunch and how many people in the US were traveling here or there. Having a full five day week really seems a little strange. Even in Chile we were already finished with the semester so we didn’t have to sit through classes on Thanksgiving. Luckily one of my coworkers from the states was having a big Thanksgiving feast at her house, and invited a few of us to come over and join in. It ...
Weimar, Thuringia, Germany robconr... spent a weekend cooking dinner for a girl, baking cookies, and an apple pie. This is really a new side of me. I guess it’s never too late to try some new stuff!
How was the week where you are at? I hope that this finds you all well. I hear it snowed in Michigan and is warm and sunny in the South (from TN to Brasil!) If you have a minute, write me a note, even if only to make fun of my new domestic aspirations!

We got to Erfurt yesterday and Klemm bought a bag of cherries outside the train station. The problem was that she had no idea how to say "half" or anything of the sort so she had to buy a whole kilogram of them for 3 euros. Not a bad deal but definitely cherry OD. A man last night recognised the "Indiana" on Klemm's shirt and claimed his ...
Erfurt, Germany ataritouchmeAbout 10:00 a.m., Jürgen Plienenger, the librarian at the Institute for Political Science, University of Tübingen, came to Haus Birkach and we drove the 29 miles to Tübingen, a university town in the Neckar valley. The University was founded in 1477 and there are half-timbered, gabled medieval houses everywhere. Schiller and Hegel both studied there. First we walked through the city, which lies alongside the narrow Neckar River. Students pole shallow boats long the river ...
