Kids loved the pool and the view from the roof. Had a lovely chat to the lifeguard.

Some of you reading this might not even know that I have moved to Abu Dhabi and for that I apologise. As is usual with me, everything happened very quickly and I had little time to organise my life before I left South Africa. The decision to move here was a difficult one. I was finally settling into life in SA and I was happier than I had been for …

... at our stop or for many of us, stopover. Not a huge plane, there are rows of three on either side of the plane and then a row of four down the middle. The plane is full it seems, and all of us are enduring this confinement to get somewhere better. My seat is on the aisle in the middle, makes it easier to get out without feeling like a pest and with my back problems it's not easy to get out of any seat. I should say that the queues for getting on, were shortened once my walking ...

Quite rough overnight. AD very different to previous ports, lovely balmy temperature and modern buildings roads no too busy. Tok shuttle to shopping Mall in morning to get Buscopan for mum. Then returned to ship for afternoon tour to a different huge and upmarket Mall, scenic drive and finally a cruise along the Corniche in a wooden Dhow with refreshments. All quite low key but enjoyable. Tonight we sail at midnight to arrive in Dubai on Saturday ...

It has a botanical theme, representing colors, materials, and flora from all nations. It’s unbelievably beautiful. But when our adorable tour guide Mohammad told us that the chandeliers alone cost ten million dollars, I couldn’t help but be a bit disgusted, ...

... the one in Nassau. Except with no casino. We also made a photo stop at the Burj Al Arab Hotel, completed in 1999 and a recognize able symbol of Dubai. Then we went to the largest shopping mall in the world, the Dubai Mall. It's huge. Seriously. There's no way you can see it all in the 2 hours we had. Surprising to me, it had many American staples- even some specific to Chicago! Potbelly, Garrett's Popcorn, McDonalds, Burger King, ...
