Funicular
They have a funicular to get you up/down the hillside.
However, I showed up on lunch break. Being adventurous, I climbed my way to the top. Stupid me. 3/4's of the way I ran into construction - I found a way around but I should have waited.
Interesting cemetery at the top (see next entry).
I did take the funicular back down.
Almost got caught taking a photo of the UN Building (see that guard?)

Ancient Rock Carvings @ Gobustan
We ended work early which gave us the opportunity to do a little sightseeing. Luckily they arranged a driver for us to go south about an hour to see the Gobustan Rock Carvings.
Another UNESCO World Heritage Site checked off the list.
I really wanted to see the lions, but they don't let people go into that area.

The entrance to all metro stations are glass pyramids, similar to the one at the Louvre. The old funicular has been renovated and now has a futuristic design. The pace at which construction is being undertaken in this city, it would be interesting to compare yearly photos in the future to see how this dynamic city evolves! Google Maps ...

... and Robert Hancock, who were responsible for the catual new studs. Brilliant. Made out of special steel, and looking great. Spare studs and new tab washers as well. If this doesnt get us going again, nothing will! Also gave us contacts for the next countries. All the preparation we did before we left doesnt match the value of a direct name.
Back to the car, to fit the new parts. The car's back on its wheels again, so a few other minor adjustments, and we're done. Two ...
