    We came back to the Hotel and had a cup of tea and then wandered down the other road to a couple of parks, full of Chinese out singing and playing cards, and youngsters on bikes and blowing bubbles.

    We walked down to the Shangri-La and had a cocktail. Came back to the hotel at 6.45pm for half an hour and then went over the road to our lovely restaurant again.

    Today has been a full day of visiting the sights, with our guide and driver. Driving, in both shanghai and Beijing, is pretty hairy. Cars swoop from lane to lane with little warning, scooters and bikes ignore any traffic signals, and I anticipate an accident at any moment!
