We spent a couple more nights in Amsterdam after leaving the boat. A chance to fit in a visit to Rembrandt Huis and the very large Rijksmuseum. Sue also went shopping for a new suitcase as the wheel had come apart on her 10 yr old pink job. We then headed for Germany on another very comfortable, quiet and smooth train. We have been in Koblenz for four nights at a lovely apartment a stone's throw from ...

Love to live in a castle

A travel blog entry by cjasko on Jun 08, 2015

... Found jump seats near the doors. Very firm seats, very straight backs! And due to the strike, this train stopped everywhere between Cologne and Koblenz--14 or 15 stops over 2 hours! Kids, high schoolers, shoppers, commuters. But we got to our destination! We asked in information and learned that there will be one train per hour to Trier tomorrow, leaving "on the seventeen."

Outside to find a taxi--when Judith reserved the room, the owner said it was too ...

... currently 2,600 individual vineyard sites in the Moselle Valley. It seems as though it would be impossible to grow grapes on the steep slopes but the conditions are actually ideal for the growing of Riesling wine grapes. The most important slopes are those that are south facing as they receive the most sunlight - very important for these grapes at such a northerly latitude. Of all the world's major wine growing areas, Germany is the northernmost. ...
