9135 Hearst Drive, (formerly The Orchid Inn Traveler) San Simeon, California, United States, 93452, 805.927.3878

Unfortunately it was also the route that had so many awesome attractions along the way. We hurried and picked up our rental car at Fox Rent a car: A white Ford Mustang Convertible. Oh yeah baby! Well then again every other car we saw on our trip was a Ford Mustang Convertible - with a prettier color. We loved our white convertible anyway and I...

Drove
to the Hearst Castle entrance, pretty sure we had to pay to drive up to
it so we headed back to the motel to wash the car with Rich's boxers
and America's fairy liquid, didn't really make much difference! Went
back to Cambria for dinner then home to repack everything that had been
spread out through the car ready for returning it on Friday.

Established in 1875, this is still a working lighthouse. Tours can be arranged through the BLM office on Hwy. 1, but this time we just took pictures. We continued up, with Highway 1 climbing and becoming more narrow and curvy as we headed up to Big Sur. We didn't make it all the way there, as we ...
Morro Bay, California, United States travelingma... was out and I was shooting pics.
As the sun went down in the cloud streaked sky, the temperatures quickly dropped. We made our way back to the town of Morro, stopping for fish and chips at Giovanni's Fresh Fish Market. Mom insisted she was really hungry so we each placed an order, although I told her we could share (I have eaten here before). You get five big pieces of cod in a batter that is enough there to let you ...

The sea was really rough and we saw some massive waves, crashing against the rocky shoreline. It took us hours just to travel the 100 mile route, we must of stopped off about twenty times! We had lunch halfway down at the Whale Watchers Cafe, but sadly didn't spot any whales.

Just towards the end of the drive, we came across a number of cars parked alongside a beach. We decided to stop and ...
Cambria, California, United States jimandlaura... around the area has been booked out for months. So we are best off driving about 45 minutes south to Cambria.

Oh my... it looks like we are really getting ahead of schedule quickly... and we got “jaded” out of Big Sur. We were still doing very well with the daylight (it was about 5pm), so we quickly decided to just head down to the Hearst San Simeon State Park, where we knew there were campgrounds (although we did not know if they ...
San Simeon, California, United States sewy... boys but hell it was only lunchtime! Absolute succulent meaty goodness basted in homemade BBQ sauce. HELLO.

Crowbarred our guts back into the car and on slightly busier roads found our way to Santa Barbara which is gorgeous. Palm tree lined promenade beautiful hotels and houses and a great pier which we walked down and had a brewski in a dedicated crab restaurant. Tanks of live crabs full to the top. One of the problems with being such foodies and coming to ...
