... used to produce power for a long time. Consequently, mills were built here. I haven't read up on all the history of them, but have a few photos of the information. I also went into their visitor centre. They have gone to a lot of trouble to make the valley accessible with walking trails and bits fenced off for safety. I also noticed one part was a designated rock climbing area, with a request for 'no fouling'. I presume they mean dogs?

... so despite both me and Carrie being exhausted we limped our way into Armitage.

Once moored up it seemed like Carrie got a burst of energy so went blackberry picking, we then had a dinner of beans on toast with mushrooms followed by french toast with a kind of jam style coulis using the last of the fresh fruit.

We stopped for lunch just south of Great Haywood, but first we went through Tixall Wide. Basically Tixall House didn't want their view spoilt by a canal, so it was disguised as a lake. Seems like a clever way to disguise a canal, and is quite an impressive thing as you come round the corner to find a massive expanse of water before you.

... We completed 8 miles in total distance. We arrived before our luggage and strolled into Glenridding for lunch. The B&B for the next two nights is great, with a very welcoming and accommodating host. We are getting laundry done and will a day of rest tomorrow. Day 11 June 12th: Rest day in Patterdale.
