A nice town ,but we are passing through

We spent the night at Sheridan, a classic western town, we went down town in the evening where the locals enjoy a fair called "Third thursday", it appears that every third thursday they close the main street at 5 pm and everyone comes out to mix and ...

Guess What? - Old Faithful Gushed on Schedule

... and minor geysers. Waited over an hour for Old Faithful to erupt. It was faithful.
Headed out of the park and climbed the bighorn mountains. Steep curvy road up and down. Hit some construction but made it into Sheridan, Wy by late afternoon. Ready for the home stretch.

Big Horn Canyon Nat'l Rec Area / wild mustangs

... almost iridescent. The bases of the rainbow must have been several miles apart, with no buildings to block any part of the arc, and the top was almost as bright as the bases. After several glorious minutes just staring at it, we noticed the left side had gained a second bow for about 40 degrees of sky. This second rainbow had its colors reversed (violet on the outside, red on the inside). Hours ...

Everything we need in one spot!

Stop to check out a covered bridge, but it was recent construction, kind of lame.

Decided to look for food, in the mood for oriental. First we find gas for $2.39 a gallon! The find te buffent and end up receiving WIFI in the parking lot! Then the buffet has CRABLEGS.

Needless to say, we a both full for the evening (6:30pm local time). We're still around 110+ miles from Devils Tower, maybe tent, maybe not?

Just the Facts, Ma'am

... in Alabama and he told us how to disassemble the shifting mechanism and release the pawl that was keeping it from going into gear.  It took us two hours but we got it fixed and have had no further problems, and the great good news was that it happened in the parking lot of last night's hotel so we weren't stranded somewhere out in the middle of nowhere.  What's a road trip without at least one mechanical puzzle to solve?

We're doing fine.  Stay with us!

The rest of Wyoming

... entrance to Yellowstone, through a pass that cannot be described. That pass was through the Big Horn Mountains, made famous by General Custer. This pass was incredible. We got to photograph a moose at a stream at the summit. The most breathtaking part of the pass was the decent back to the plains. The photos attached won't really do it justice. We would recommend this pass to anyone who really digs driving through them.

Sunday 20 July

... out through this route and it is a long drive up through mountains until you get to Cody and then Y.Stone. Fuel was ridiculously expensive in Buffalo - about 50 cents a gallon more than we had seen in Gillette! We were mad with ourselves, especially as we needed food too. We haven't made too many errors like this one so far. So we decided to continue heading north to Sheridan, where we could shop at Walmart and buy fuel at a half-way decent price. Then we headed ...

Stalking a Moose

... for leaks. I found a loose metal tube that had broken off from the engine and I tried to bondo it back on. The van was running more smoothly after it had heated up and I figured I would check it again in the morning, meanwhile spending the day and night here.
I started a painting of Sibley Lake and while I was working on it I saw a moose in the ...

Wyoming Will be My New Home-For Now

... The man had grown up on a farm and studied corn in college. Who would have thought that that would have led him to being paid by just about every country in the world that grows corn to come and share his knowledge with them.
My 38th state since the beginning of these trips, 3410.2 miles so far on number 4, $573.46 spent and $326.32 left. I have to start economizing or quit having vehicle problems. End Day 19.
