While unfavorable currency rates and the global consumer credit crunch contributed to a temporary dip in the volume of sales, consumption has been steadily on the increase in the last several months, albeit in new ways and throwing up new market trends.
For instance, English sparkling wines is one of the biggest success stories of 2009 ...
Well, the kids surprised us again. They wanted to go to school with Niko and Sonia and see what school was like in India. So with a couple of calls and emails, Nita arranged it all for us. And Sejal and Rahul went on the bus and to the Indus International School with their "cousins".
Sejal went to Niko's class in 5th grade, and Rahul hung out with Sonia’s class in 1st grade. Niko had golf ...
The first thing you notice about Bangalore is how green it is. As we were landing, it was lush with open spaces and you did not feel crowded in like we did in Mumbai and Hyderabad. The next thing you notice is the weather – it is mild and reminds me of Portland. We did not need the AC every second and the evenings had a nice breeze.
Today, Nita arranged for us to go to Family ...
... is 7 months younger than Sejal, and Sonia is 6. They get along great together, and we saw them this summer when Nita and the kids visited us in Portland.
In the evening, the kids stayed back with the cook and the 4 of us went out. We went to downtown Bangalore to a place called Aqua for drinks and dinner. Got home around 1:45am. Vijay’s friends from college joined us. It is cool that he has friends from school that he grew up with that he still is close to.
... Sathyanarayana, a dignified man with a mustache who doesn’t smile when I take his picture, is a fourth generation snuff merchant. A picture of his late father hangs behind him.
When I ask about one of Sathy's puja shrines, a small metal and glass frame encasing five Hindu gods in gold he tells me to keep it. I cradle the object, to me a treasure, and gape. I’m overwhelmed and promise to return with a print of my picture of him and the shop, and bid my ...
... her flight got in at midnight....we were paranoid about getting there on the bus and how long it would take us). We sat in the coffee shop and played what felt like hundreds of games of farmers rummy.....then mike made michelle a welcome sign and we waited.....and waited......she FINALLY got there at about 1:30am. We then stayed up for about 3 hours chatting away in our hotel ...
Bangalore, Karnataka, India pam... that Indians view the average westerner as uneducated and simply lucky to be born in a country which became wealthy as a result of colonialism. From the rickshaw drivers to shop owners, many Indians treat westerners as if they understand nothing and they are simply cows to be milked of as much money as possible. They often adopt a subservient attitude to mask this, which can confuse westerners as to their attitudes on life and on the West. The situation ...

Bangalore, India benabroad... to get to the commissioner's office, and there were more papers to print out. Again... Why they weren't printed before I have no idea... Other than the fact that this is India. They came in at 1, and Roopa gave us new copies of our offer letters that had letterheads. Its funny because the ones that I had brought already had the letterhead, so we could have gone through the line and gotten everything done while we were waiting, but Roopa wouldn ...
Bangalore, Karnataka, India ruthbarz... girl in the orange dress had taken it with her when she had disappeared into the crowd. Maybe I should have followed my instincts, wanting to pick her up and play with her. I could have bought the entire basket of jasmine, slowly, one garland at a time. Bringing me from the grown up world into her world. We could have sat in the dirt tying flowers in each others hair until we looked like two Chiquita Banana Ladies. If I saw her again on the streets of Mysore, I promised myself, I would do just that.
