Today we road the Route du Cidre - a 50km loop around the Cidre vineyards of Normandy. It was fun! There areas many gorgeous little villages, and heaps of Zebra houses! Very typical of the region. We arrived at the final Cidre place, Genevieve. The man was lovely, knew we were Aussies - "cadel evans!!". We bought a bottle of Cidre and sat on his lawn enjoying it in the sun. In the afternoon we went to town and shared a Nutella crepe. ...

We were hungry when we arrived so of course, managed to find the patisserie for a chocolate croissant! So good!!!!!! Everyone is here for the same reason and without a doubt I would dress up in an uniform and sleep in a tent if I could! I would die if ...

... a lovely house in Cendrieux. It was a long drive -- 700 km -- but we are so glad to have gone to Normandy and Brittany. We would return there in a heartbeat. Maybe it's a place for a month another year.

As the sun set at the house in Cendrieux we explored and found that we are surrounded by fields of sunflowers, mostly gone by, but beautiful nonetheless.

    A D-Day Education in Caen

... were especially moving. Outside, there are nation-specific D-Day memorials and peace statements from numerous country leaders.

It's quickly apparent that Caen is lacking in architecture more than a few decades old. That makes sense considering 80% of the city was destructed during the 1944 Battle of Normandy. For a good account of that time period from a local resistance worker, ...
