Arrived after a short uneventful journey. Campsite similar. Weather changeable.

Tourist sites do not always live up to the flowery language used in the brochures eg. "Musicological Nucleus of the Salt" turned out to be a Musee de Sel. We did not go.

The local beauty spots, like every where else, that we did go to were covered with ingrained litter.
We are moving on tomorrow.
Figueira da Foz, Beiras, Portugal mikeandsuecuff... cafes. It's got one of those beaches that's so deep, it takes about half an hour to actually reach the sea, a bit like Southport, except that the walk is still there even when the tide is in! To facilitate all this walking it's criss-crossed with long boardwalks and even streetlights, and of course when you do reach the sea it's a lovely blue, unlike Southport! One day we drove the 35 miles to see the ...
Figueira da Foz, Beiras, Portugal oldagetraveller... another spread for breakfeast with our new friends the Conzalas family. The next day our kids finally get to see the Atlantic close up.. [PHOTO_ID_L=3_the-atlantic.jpg warm air, cold atlantic! It was wonderful to end our car journey at the beach with gelatos before leaving for our final drive... back to Amora.
Figueira da Foz, Beiras, Portugal hollingers... I admired the beautiful white on white embroidery of a tablecloth made on the island. I walked and took photos for as long as I could and then returned to the ship, where I fell asleep before we even left port. M: Madeira was great. It was indeed some tasty air at the top of that mountain in Monte. Enjoyed walking around and taking it all in. Good stuff!
Funchal, Madeira Islands, Portugal thetravellog... town’s population are students. Our room had a good view of the University on top of the hill. We wandered out by the riverside for the Indian restaurant only to find it closed. Back at the hotel, the owner & his girlfriend helped us prepare some soup & upma in the kitchen. After this great dinner & a long 500 km journey behind us, we retired to our bed.
Coimbra, Beiras, Portugal savla78... when I was passing by and sit for a bit. Very peaceful. - Clock tower of the University of Coimbra with its renowned library, the Biblioteca Joanina and the former royal palace. (Coimbra used to be the capital of Portugal). There is a beautiful square, which we used to cross when coming back from our classes. - Rua Ferreira Borges. It's the main street of Coimbra full of clothing stores, cafes and little ...
Coimbra, Beiras, Portugal gwynethmarta... Of course I saw the whole city as well, the university has a massive ornate library (so massive that it has its own colony of bats that somehow keep the books clean!) and there are many parks and a nice riverfront area. The festival was CRAZY, I have never seen so many young (and I mean young, some under 16!!) people drinking...in the streets...until 8 in the morning! And they all wear ...
Coimbra, Beiras, Portugal ckulenguski... tänaseni näha mosaiikpõrandaid ning mitmete ehitiste vundamente. Osad nendest on nüüdseks saanud algse kuju, ehk siis vundament on originaal, kuid peale ehitatud osa on valgest kivist, et välja tuua kontrast kuipalju alustaladest on säilinud. Vanasti elati väga-väga suurejooneliselt, saime jälle kinnituse. Kindlasti tasub seal ära käia, sissepääs on kõigest 3€, mis sisaldab varemete ja muuseumi külastust.
Conimbriga, Beiras, Portugal pille... maailmas! Ülikool on jagatud 8 teaduskonnaks, kus õpib ca 22 000 tudengit.

Coimbra, Beiras, Portugal pilleHello...

I'm in Portugal now. Last I wrote was in Toledo, I think...I took a night train to Lisbon, where I stayed for one night. It's nice, as far as big cities go, but it's a big city. It's very diverse and the people are real laid back.

After that I went to Sintra, just west of Lisbon. It's a little town in the mountains. Lots of shade, green, and fresh air. I spent many more days there than I planned to. The first night I arrived ...
