She was quite an artist and writer and made the town a sort of artisan hub. When she died in 1938 in Siniya in Romania, her heart was returned to the chapel in Balchik for burial.

The palace is quite small, but her apartment - well - not grand at all, but sooo pretty with lovely windows looking out across ...

We decided to explore a bit further south and have a look at Sozopol. It's another ancient town, but not a World Heritage site like this one. ... to the new town. A nice sandy beach, but full of sun beds etc even now. I would hate to be here in the main season. Not really much to write about, but managed to buy a beach towel (bright pink which I will leave with you Pam) and have lunch in a pretty restaurant overlooking the causeway and old town.

Some places here are so lovely, and others haven't quite got it yet. This place ...
