2 Ks. J. Popieluszki Street Torun, Central Poland, Poland, 48-56-6228900/7085
... on my head while I push my overloaded iron lady through near-empty streets, my sweaty and rained upon head trying to make an owl`s turning, trying hard to take it all in. The omnimous darkness of the thunderstorm as yet awaiting me ignoring, I look for a small bar for lunch...back to tasteless Polish froth that the locals gobble down like it is a bowl of Red Wine with the fermented grapes still floating atop but I myself find ...
Torun, Central Poland, Poland farang020... also got a Leaning Tower, like the one in Piza. The difference is mostly in the size (the one in Toruń is obviously smaller) and the style: the Leaning Tower of Toruń is a simple Roman tower that started to lean immediately after its construction due to the instable ground on which it had been erected.
You can take a boat cruise on the Vistula, or go for a walk along its banks The asphalt terraces that step into the river serve as an excellent place ...
... II. Gdansk is largely rebuilt on the base of the original buildings.
While arriving, an older woman adopts me. She helps me with the locker, buying & validating my bus ticket, telling me about Torun. She only knows a few words of English so it is mostly sign language. A nice welcome. With my large backpack, I learned that if I am just doing 1 night and there is much of a walk and/or much transport then I pack my daypack and leave my big backpack at the ...
... station and we shared a cab. As it turns out they were also on the same train but they were travelling further south than I was. On the train there were 2 Polish men who were probably in their mid 30s. At first there wasn't a lot of chatting going on but as the Polish men drank more beer (the train left Gdansk at 9am by the way) they loosened up a bit and tried to chat even though they didn't have much if any English. I don't mind as it's ...
Torun, Central Poland, Poland eileenjThe night I get to the ecclesiastic main town of Polan: Toruń. It has a medieval centre recognized by the UNESCO, and a huge Rynek with a nice town hall in the middle. This was the native town of Copernic, and lived for 7 years in one its houses. There is some teutonic castle in ruins and some protection walls. The river walk is also very ...
Gniezno, Poland lelaulau... They assure that they'll finish cleaning/organizing the second grave. We give kiss's and get the invitration to come by anytime for tea and pastries. Dad and I go back to the car where it suddenly dawns me, I never took a picture of her and her son. Hmm.. After contemplation, I decide to run back and snap a pick of them. No really, when will I see them again. They were both pleased as punch that I double backed to take a picture of them.
Lipno, Poland kasia-waw... Torun during the time he was alive. This included three loaves of bread, a few cannonballs, a collection of leeches in a jar, and the ingredients for gingerbread along with the recipe. It was a rather odd collection of items. I couldn't find the gingerbread museum since it didn't seem to exist on any map and each person who gave me directions to it obviously had no clue where it was either ...
Torun, Poland laura1... was shining, but given we had our packs we decided to leave all our site seeing for the following day, instead opting to get a pizza, find our hostel and get our bearings in the city. After a few beers the previous evening our team of five made sure we were up in time to see as much of the city as we could the next day. The rynek was somewhat different to others I'd seen in Poland, with a giant red brick town hall in the centre. Two interesting statues were located ...
Torun, Poland will... Lonely Planet cannot let me down for the 84th time. But alas! It did. The Internet sign at the correct address for the second, and last, cafe pointed to a closed, locked door! With opening times indicated that the door should and this very second be open! Yay! So off I went, thinking that surely there must be another internet cafe in this place. An hour of walking proved that there wasn't, but then, behold! A sign that gave me hope! 'Hotspot here', printed ever so neatly on the ...
Torun, Poland baggagewhoresDay 42, instead of going straight from Warsaw to Gdansk, I made a detour at the city of Torun. The city might ring a bell to most of you, ohh, the city in Italy. Well, Torun is actually a small Medeval city in the northwestern part of Poland. This town is famous because it is the birth place of Nicolas Copernicus and where he spent his childhood. He is the first astronomer to overturn the theory that the earth is flat and the universe revolves ...
