... very depressed with many closed stores & shops, yet nice areas also) we checked email, read & watched TV. I found that we could watch the Miss Mississippi pageant via streaming video, so we did. One of the young ladies we had met was in the top ten finalists, but she did not make the next cut. It was fun to watch. Today was the hottest day so far, in the low 90s. We experienced no rain today, unlike other days, just nice clear blue ...

Set off on our adventure to the USA , slight hiccup at the beginning we got on the wrong train , not mentioning any names (ed didn't check the time of the ticket) we approached the couple "sat in our seat" ed politely says excuse me i think you are sat in our seats, after a comparison of tickets, "no mate your on the wrong train" turning to ed with a "ARE YOU ******* KIDDING ME" we scurried ourself onto some seats and swiftly moved ...

Another driving day.

It was a beautiful sunny day today and around 70 degrees. We filled up with fuel and headed west on Highway 20. When we went across the state line to Alabama, we entered a different time zone, so we gained an hour. There was lots of construction across Alabama to Birmingham, lots of hills and trees and not much else. We discovered that the AC in the van isn't working so ...

... on the side of a nice bass fishing lake (reservoir). Taking a walk to the lake at dusk we were startled by hundreds of turkey buzzards that were roosting above the trail. Made quite a noise when we startled a hundred of them.

Another stop was the tomb of Meriweather Lewis of the Lewis and Clark expedition. Lewis was Governor of the Louisiana territory when he was traveling the Trace on his way back from Washington ...
