OKAY! The adventure is becoming real now! We got confirmation from a WWOOF farm in Argentina. WWOOF is a worldwide organization where you work on an organic farm and learn about sustainable living in exchange for room and board (well, sort of, we have to bring our own tent!) Depending on the country, they might give you a preview of host farms, ...
Bedias, Texas, United States bakpaknbizclassI have gotten various initial reactions when telling people what we're doing. Some examples: "WHAT? (this is accompanied by a jaw drop and wide eyes)" ; "Are you crazy?"(I guess we are); "You are Lucky!" (well, we are fortunate but it also took alot of planning and saving and a BIG DREAM that we were willing to act on); "You are dropping out!" (...
Bedias, Texas, United States bakpaknbizclassOkay, I know I will be hard pressed to get any sympathy from any of you--but here goes anyway--leaving your house, job, family, friends and pets to travel for a year is stressful. I have a 70 sheet spiral notebook where I am tracking to-do lists and documenting research. There are currently 9 tabs on it and I am annoyed with myself for letting t...

Early in 2009, I said to Jeff, “If we keep doing the same thing every day, we’re going to keep doing the same thing every day”. Sounds really “duh”, but what I meant by it is, if you never go out of your comfort zone, continue on the habit trail, (get up, work out, go to work, come home, eat dinner, go to bed) ...
Socks was born on May 10, 1995 in Tallahassee, FL. He was our daughter's cat - a "college cat." We adopted him in 1996.
In 2007, Socks was diagnosed with Leukemia which was in remission. However, in the past ten days he hadn’t been feeling well. An ultrasound revealed that his Leukemia had spread to Lymphoma. Three veterinarians inc...

College Station, Texas, United States socksLeft Arlington, TX early in the morning. Heavy rain predicted later on in the morning, definitely wanted to leave before the rain. Ran into rain anyway so it took longer than usual. Texas received heavy rain the past 2 weeks that caused severe flooding in the Dallas / Houston area, of course this is where we are .

I guess this was the main reason I came back at this time for vacation. On the plus side - got to see the whole family in one place over a couple of days.
Outside of having to dress up in a tux, it was a good time. And my rental car even got into the wedding.
So, here I am sitting in my apartment in College Station, total silence save for the rain tapping the window and the hum of the fan. I feel like I need to explain to myself why I'm about to go on this trip. I suppose I could start by saying I don't really know. I think most any traveler would say the same. Wanderlust is a crazy thing, an ...
College Station, Texas, United States tex25So I get to College Station and Bryan, after a windy day. I took the whole day to ride 55 miles or so. The real problem goes down when I took a nap, then accidently rode 3 miles backwards. I only figured it out when I saw a ramshackle building for the second time. The cows noticed I was no longer a stranger, and the depresion and fatigue set in....
