... Cathedrals is often the life work of a few generations within families.No doubt the construction of such would have been pivotal for much community, religious and political power struggles.

So what of Cologne? I haven't researched this in depth but I would imagine that the French feel to the place stems way back to the roots of the Frankish Empire. Happy to be corrected on that...did I mention how good Steve Smith is going? Fair dinkum he will do ...

Our hotel was on the banks of the Rhine so we had a lovely view of the river and city skyline. Just next door was the Bonn Opera House, currently showing Salome but unfortunately time did not permit a performance. The low point of the day was the journey home, as someone has unfortunately jumped on to the train lines, so they were closed and most trains were delayed by at least 90 minutes.
