This is an amazing resort. The geothermal pools were fabulous; although we used them excessively, we never became inured to the pleasure we felt. There was so much to do there. We did hikes, rented an ATV and enjoyed the food both at the resort & the surrounding area.

We spent three nights at the luxurious Los Lagos Hotel outside of La Fortuna, the closest town to Arenal Volcano. The hotel features regular swimming pools as well as a dozen hot pools of various temperatures. Several of the pools have slides going into them.

Although it has been quiet since 2010, Arenal used to …

Oh my goodness, what a day!!! We started early to go to Monteverde preserve. This was founded by a Quaker, who saw the beauty in the land, purchased a great deal of land, went to the states to raise $90,000, and purchase the land from the remaining farmers, hunters and ranchers. They then sold the land back to Costa Rica for $1 colon. (In today's economy, $1 is $500 colon. ). This was all done because some Quakers moved to the area after being conscientious objectors ...

... the day we had a visit to the local thermal pools. These pools themselves were naturally heated and it was impressive to see the quantity of heated water flowing through these streams. Gave me a new respect for the thermal heating of the Earth.

On our last day in La Fortuna we decided to visit a local chocolate factory. Here, we were able ...

... were equally beautiful. Walking through a rainforest brings me much joy.

Unfortunately, I did not see any animals during my hike through the rainforest. I did see a couple birds during my journey .. and heard many more. The sounds from the jungle are quite exciting. From the birds, to the rushing water and wind - to the zipliners coming down the cables.. lol ... the rainforest is a marvelous place to visit.

Speaking of the zipline sounds. I was walking through ...
