We have a third floor room with a view to die for. We had dinner in the restaurant tonight... great meal and wonderful service. Very memorable.

This morning we woke to a washed-clean vista of village and peaks, with waterfalls flowing freely across the valley. Today is a slow-start day--hallelujah! The larger group is walking downhill from Murren to Gimmelwald, and a few of us are giving our knees due respect and taking the gondola from Murren to Gimmelwald. We almost missed our desired …

Today we had a very early start, leaving our elegant "bad hotel" at 7:30 and walking a quick block to the bus. We took a scenic drive through the Black Forest--very green--including hairpin turns and quaint pocket villages, and passed an amazingly busy lumberyard/mill full of lovely lumber. An hour on the autobahn, and we arrived at an open air …

Karen was so eager to go up the Schilthorn that she was awake at 6 am. We were on the gondola by 9 am, and it was clear and warm--41 degrees at the stop at Birg, and well above freezing on top--some wind, but lovely. We went …

... he is a packed lunch fiend! I can take them or leave them, but Bill James is a man obsessed.

Post-lunch, we stopped in Lauterbrunnen at what Rick Steves describes as “the grittiest pub in Lauterbrunnen.” Rick Steves is a doofus. I mean, it wasn’t the nicest bar in the world, but someone please get Rick Steves to Gallette’s or Egan’s, so the man can have some frame of reference or scale before he makes such declarations. Pictures of ...

... there are none left for us to send home – we ate them all – every single one of them! Yum, yum….

What we have noticed is that Switzerland is significantly more expensive than anywhere else we have visited, including the UK. Swiss Francs are very different from the Eurpos we are now used to and probably the hardest of all monies to tell the coins apart (the ½ Franc and the 10c are almost identical in size and are both silver). The ...
