    Shar:
Tonight I write from another balcony-- this one in Switzerland, on the third floor overlooking Lake Champex and beyond that, the Grand Combin Glacier. The top of the mountain is covered with a thick blanket of fog, hiding it so that if we hadn't seen it earlier, we wouldn't know it was there. As we enjoy our red wine and chocolate …

Paul's training has kicked in. The Ironman in Copenhagen is on 23rd August. Paul went up the valley this morning (on another beautiful day). We zipped to the weekend market and then headed off to Geneva to get a new rental car. We haven't found a car to buy yet, so need to take back our rental and exchange for a smaller version. Old drink there before continuing to Hotel De La Forclaz. The hike ...

We headed to our new "ski shop" with a Swedish guy (Rob), Scottish Chap (Dave) and an Ozzie! We were all kitted out and I'm particularly fond of my new boots. The sales are on everywhere for ski gear, so with took advantage of the season. Because the shop is called "Namaste", Paul gave Rob a NZ $5 note and showed ...

... swifter. The train zips through a wine growing area with small rows of vines planted on anything other than a vertical slope and little villages tucked between. I have to switch to busses as I get closer to my destination Champex-Lac. The final leg of the journey is up a step narrow road made of hairpin bends until you reach the pretty little lake. I arrive at the refuge just in time for my 3 course dinner and meet some other trekkers. Everyone is at a different stage ...
