      Shar:
Tonight I write from another balcony-- this one in Switzerland, on the third floor overlooking Lake Champex and beyond that, the Grand Combin Glacier. The top of the mountain is covered with a thick blanket of fog, hiding it so that if we hadn't seen it earlier, we wouldn't know it was there. As we enjoy our red wine and chocolate …

The following day we rose early and headed into Chamonix, with our fingers and toes crossed we were praying that the famous Aiguille Du Midi gondola was open, this is because the day before it closed while we were lining up due to strong winds. We all crammed into ...

... swifter. The train zips through a wine growing area with small rows of vines planted on anything other than a vertical slope and little villages tucked between. I have to switch to busses as I get closer to my destination Champex-Lac. The final leg of the journey is up a step narrow road made of hairpin bends until you reach the pretty little lake. I arrive at the refuge just in time for my 3 course dinner and meet some other trekkers. Everyone is at a different stage ...
