... that machine. Oops, I had not seen her clothes in there and they were washed with our things. Luckily she had a sense of humor about it as we sorted through each other's underthings. I later went back to check on the clothes in the dryer, and I saw she had left me a note along with a neatly folded pair of underwear. The underwear was not mine. Somehow a third person had gotten entangled in the great laundry fiasco. And that's how it goes on the road.

Today we ventured outside of Tokyo to Nikko, a 2 hour train ride north of the city. This World Heritage Site was the seat of the first Shogun in Edo era Japan and an ancient center of the Buddhist and Shinto religions. ... someone of my stature and I was very grateful when we arrived at Utsunomiya. We stopped off a little cafe in the station for a caffeine hit and then got the train for Nikko.
As a World Heritage Site, Nikko is a popular destination for national and international tourists so the train line there was more decorative than the others we'd been on. It was packed and there were several non Japanese visitors on board.

Nikko is nice though, and the world heritage park pleasant. Big cedar trees, a nice river and some good walks. The only downside of visiting parks in Japan is that there is no place to rest or sit down. They all no seats anywhere so you just keep walking so by the end of my day in Nikko I was a bit foot sore.
