Yesterday 10/09/08 We had the whole Morning to see Bath. I first went to the Roman Baths they where incredible. I have always wanted to see them and wondered around for a good two or so hours. Its quite an extensive arrangement. The Roman baths are where people honerd the Goddess and also came to get healed. The Romans took Baths in quite an elaborate system at first both men and woman all bathed together in the same pool. The first thing they would do is after undressing is scrub themselves ...
London, England, United Kingdom adri204Flew into London on thursday night feeling pretty exhausted. But thankfully in my prepared state I had booked an airport transfer to my hostel, which after 2 hours of boarder security I was congratulating myself on my planning. But it was not to be - Got to the counter for the bus, and was informed that they did not go as far as my hostel, and that the booking was an error.. to say I was ****** off would be an understatement. The bus driver was a nice guy though, and offered to take me as far...
London, England, United Kingdom bananaz70So where were we? Oh yeah, Alright so we headed off from the net cafe yesterday and ran into the changing of the guard ceremony, which was tourist packed but interesting. The mounted royal guards come out of a building and ride all the way in a procession to Buckingham Palace. We decided that it could be a fun place to go, so followed them and checked it out. The palace was huge, and very crowded outside, but definately worth a look-in. After that we wandered into the guard museum and took a ...
London, United Kingdom bananaz70We finished off the last post in a net cafe, with our protagonist tired, hungover and not really excited about the day at all. Well it did get better. We left the cafe, and once again rushed down to the Eurail offices on Regent Street. This time we made a booking for the Paris - Barcelona leg, getting a sleeper compartment for about £23 each, which isnt too bad considering we can rest all night and arrive in Spain fresh and ready to.... drink on the beach.. haha. After the booking was made we...
London, United Kingdom bananaz70So this weekend I went to London and had a reunion with three of my Fordham friends who are all also studying abroad. I left my house on Friday at 7:15 in the morning and walked in the wind and rain to the bus station. I was completely soaked and disgusting when I got there 20 minutes later. The two hour ride to the Shannon Airport was pretty brutal, and when I went to go check in, I couldn't because I was three hours early for my flight. Why was I three hours early, you ask? My Irish housema...
London, United Kingdom globetrotter444Paris was absolutely amazing and definitely one of my favorite places. It was good to relax for a bit because I knew that my trip to England would be a lot of sightseeing packed into only a couple of days. At first I planned on only visiting London, but my friend from Fordham, Andrew Ketchum, actually studies in York, which is a city about 2 hours away from London. He always raves about his school and area so I thought it would be nice to see that too. On Thursday I left Paris early in the m...
London, United Kingdom senaSo we made the 8 hour flight from ORD to LON without incident. The takeoff was perhaps one of the most interesting I've ever experienced, with the 747 climbing gingerly away from O'hare while odd oscillations slowly damped out within the fuselage. Sleeping was a little difficult thanks to extra-hard seats, but the empty flight was nice. We ate twice, and the curry rice was pretty good. Once in London, we navigated the tube system like pros. We picked up 3 Oyster cards and charged them up with...
Kensal Green, London, United Kingdom sponger42London is an amazing city. Everything seems quite old with a layer of modern convenience worked firmly into the city's structure. The tube is an excellent means of transit, but quite expensive. Busses are cheaper, but are driven much in the manner of a NYC cabbie, which can be quite thrilling from the upper level of the double-deckers, especially at 4AM, which is when the late busses end and the morning busses begin. The city doesn't sleep, or at least it's transit networks don't. Most busine...
