... supposedly, so there's an awful lot of open (read, boring) space. You can make good time, though, by putting this Axis on cruise control and let 'er fly. We stayed at 70mph across the rest of New Mexico, past Tucumcari (pronounce that right, why don't you?), into Texas panhandle, and kept going through Amarillo (a bigger town that we thought), saw a lot of billboards, and into Oklahoma. ... They sound almost like tropical birds they are so loud. I have never heard anything like it. Tomorrow I will take some pictures of the site. It is in the Ozarks. The woods are quite pretty. Today we drove from Kansas through Oklahoma and crossed the border into Arkansas. ... one time over 30 steamboats plied the river and now ocean going ships travel the same waters. There are stories of the Civil War, bushwhackers and tales of Spanish Treasures. There are so many state parks, COE parks and wilderness areas.

Tomorrow we head south on the scenic byway to Hot Springs, AR. Weather is still hot but sunny and no storms expected! I would return to Arkansas to explore it more especially their wonderful State ...
