Hello.
Blimey what a day yesterday was.
We were up and out a decent time, all packed up and dressed for the game (packed lunch, flags, cameras, sweets, everything you need for a long coach journey). Off we went to visit the Olympic tower for a lofty look at the city and a stroll through the parks round by the lakes next to the stadium, before heading up to the Holiday Inn for 3.30pm to meet with the gang and travel up to the match (which could ...
2 x Housut
2 x Alushousut
2 x Sukat
2 x T-Paita

Caught the train from Helsinki to Turku which only took about two hours. They have very nice trains. Easy city to navigate. I'm going to check out the harbour and book a spot on one of the ferries heading for ALands. Unfortunately I can't go today because the ferries only depart at 0815 and 2015. So I'm staying in Turku today which is fine because I forgot that I wanted to see the castle. Now I'm just waiting for the hostel to open so I can drop my bag off. It's getting lighter every day.
... walk it to the ferry, mostly so I can see more of the waterway. Turns out to be longer than I thought with all the weight. I still make it with no problem, just lots of exercise.
The ferry arrives at 6 AM. Almost everyone has a cabin for the night. I opt to skip it. I have to find a seat on the activity level which includes the restaurant, bar … I actually found some chairs that are similar to airline ones with more room. Surprisingly ...
... through my lip. I have a swollen lip as well as a cut. Ah well. You won't see front-on photos of me today at least. This was the first hotel booking we had that did not include breakfast. We could have paid for the buffet, but elected instead to walk to the kauppahalla (covered food markets) & then later the kauppatori (markets under awnings in the main town square). The kauppahalla looks a lot like Helsinki's, and both date from the 1890s. We bought some pastries ...
Turku, Finland austegaI found Travel Pod after my trip to Northern Europe, but I thought I would just write here so that people know they can ask me if they have any questions about Finland. I studied in Turku Finland for a semester at Abo Akademi University. I lived 4km from the school and town, and the public transportation is what I used, it was not bad at all. I also had a few travels from Finland, that I will post in other blogs. Have fun on your travels and be sure to check in!

We arrived in Turku on the bus. The beautiful port city with a central street, the castle and the quay, which is more like a museum ship in the open air))
Here is the ferry to Stockholm was waiting for us)
I've been sailing out and around all of the islands and penisulas that make out the coastline around Helsinki. I attempted to wakeboard and I realized that it is something that looks much easier to do then it actually is. I could stay vertical on the board for more then are few seconds, I guess I need to work on my balance. Big loss in Turku on the hottest day so far this summer. It was sunny and above 80 the entire day.
Turku, Western Finland, Finland jtmckeon... voting game and 90% of the time we got the votes right. I even got the 10 points to the Poland correct from Ireland. Poland had not had many votes before that. The Spaniards thought I was Psychic. The next morning after a very nice breakfast at the Hostel I made my way through the city to the train station. I bought a ticket to Helsinki for about 27 Euros and on my way in less than half an hour.
Turku, Western Finland, Finland anywherebuthere... islands with only a couple of houses on them. Our main goal of arriving at Turku was to check out the ship yards where they make Royal Caribbean Cruise ships. After a little bit of a hike to the hotel we managed to find our room. The rest of the day was spent trying out Finish customs of extremely hot saunas.
