I need a coffee, or a beer, or both. Sorry but I just cannot think at the moment, I promise to revisit this and give it the narrative it deserves, as this place is wonderful. But doing nothing but lying by a pool for days does nothing for your creativity, so I will have to come back later and tell you why Hoi An gets a tick in the box!

So, a one hour flight from Saigon to Danang, and a taxi dropped us off in Hoi An. My hotel is a lurid shade of green and looks pretty old, b...

... I couldn't be ***** to go into town so went back to Cafe 43 for dinner. I got a pizza, which was nice but on reflection not the best repast to select when one's throat is sore. Swallowing was bad enough, but swallowing food was excruciating. I groaned my way through dinner, the ibuprofen I'd been downing all day having failed miserably, then went back to my room to lick my wounds. I watched a film on TV then went to bed, vowing to go to the doctor if I was still ill in the morning.
It was really interesting to look at and even more enjoyable by bicycle.

That day happened to be Halloween and we had cycled past a bar during the day which had a halloween party advertised for that night. We thought we'd turn up and they'd be a few tourists who had made the effort with painting their faces etc, but it turned out that the bar was spilling out of the door with ...

Mark grabbed his tail, lifted him up and the tail promptly fell off. He threw it outside and the lizard also scurried out. As he closed the doors, Mark could see the tail still wriggling for about three minutes while the lizard just sat there sulking. Later it was gone and it has not been seen again.

There has still been a lot of ongoing Lifestart work. Mary has been doing a lot of ...
Hoi An, Vietnam markrob... agreed a good deal on a suit and fitted shirt combo. Once I had chosen fabrics with the aid of my little female assistant it was time for the measuring. On a piece of graph paper she quickly freehandedly drew what I wanted (including everything down to trouser style, shirt cuffs and jacket buttons). Then she whipped out her tape and had a go at pretty much every single angle of me shouting out numbers whilst another girl struggled to note them down. Then as quickly as it ...

It was a good thing we managed to get our swim in because the weather deteriorated overnight, with really strong winds.

Next morning, we went by car to Cuc Phuong National Park, 120 km South-West of Hanoi. This area used to be home to many Muong minority people, and it became the first national park in Viet Nam when it was opened by Ho Chi Minh in 1962. It contains the ...

Hoi An, Vietnam charlyvaness... the Friday night, and then he came around the next morning to watch the footy with everyone. He had been to the workshop and had a lot of ideas, which was very helpful. Later in the afternoon, we rode bikes with our visitors to Cua Dai beach. We found deck chairs in front of Man Restaurant, enjoyed some swimming and relaxing while fending off the vendors, then had dinner in the restaurant. We had been into town in the morning, for coffee and some market shopping, so the time at ...

A family dining next to me on the streets of Haiphong called me over to sit with them, stating that it must be lonely to eat by myself. On the train to Hue, a dude I met woke me up at 7am in my sleeper car to converse with me in English. Yesterday at dinner in Hue, a man from the next table asked if he could join me. Everyone else I’ve encountered along the way ...
