... for everyone else. In Venice it takes six hours for the water to come into the canals and six for it to go out. Generally water levels are 2 metres high but it can flood too. Venice is sinking but only 3 cm/century. St Mark's square is the lowest point in Venice (especially at entrance to the church) so it can flood and dies so regularly. 1.2m is generally flooding level so u need to have different sized boots to wear to get through . ... as the ship sailed up the harbour. In the shops were lovely handcrafts and embroideries, as well as lots of cute souvenirs. Tonight we left port in rough conditions. A strong wind all day had created a big swell out at sea and for the first time the ship rolled a little. Sometimes the port facilities include duty free shopping and it's amazing how cheap some of the goods we buy at home are without import duty and taxes. Alas, our bags will only hold so much!
