... at 2:30, to what felt like chaos and disorientation. As if to reinforce the warnings we had read about pickpockets and gypsies, we saw the end of an altercation with one. She had apparently tried something with a teenager, who was now holding her nose & checking for bleeding, while her mother was yelling and slapping the gypsy. She just took it all in stride and wandered away. We had seen plenty of begging gypsies in Florence but nothing so confrontational.
