Day Six

Wow! Just one more full day of Power Tour!
We left Dayton, OH at 8am this morning and got into Somerset, KY around 1:30. It rain a little at first, but then cleared up and became a very scenic drive through the countryside of Kentucky. Five minutes after we arrived in Somerset, the skies opened up and poured down for a good hour. During this time, Dave decides to get the hood on the Nova fixed ...

Day 6

... flush - given the smell there may have been some gifts still in there from the previous owners. Rest of the night goes as follows: shower, laundry, camp fire and a lot of beer. Random observation: KY learned something about road building WV did not - dynamite. It seems KY road builders exploded their way across the state making for a lot less up and down through the mountains. It's actually picturesque driving through the blasted sections of rock and coal.

K-K-Kold in Kentucky

... height of tourist season - there's no one around. We were also very aware of the damage created by the ice storm here last week. There are tree limbs and trees down everywhere. Originally we had planned to stop in Berea, the Folk Art and Craft Capital of Kentucky, but after a stop at the Visitor Centre and Craft Gift Shop we realized we were too late. We stopped at a couple of studios - a glass blowing one and ...

We drove to see Cumberland Falls, which is called the Niagara of the south. It was very pretty and for lunch since we are in Kentucky we needed to visit the home of Col. Sanders. This was were it all began in 1940 and even though we are not big KFC fans we really enjoyed. It. This was the first park we have ...

... was sarcastic remarks, napkins ( by the dozen ) chucked at them, shouted at etc etc. My sort of place anyway. Is there anything like this in the UK??? I am sure it would go down a storm anyway! Have not done too bad on the blackjack tables either. I think I am only about $150 dollars down over the 5 days - not bad I think. Had a couple of nice steaks in one of the Hotel restaurants also - New York steak for $7, not bad. Have also done the obligatory tour of all the ...

Final entry!

hi ya'll! can hardly believe that this is the last entry - feels like the past 5 weeks has flown by, and yet at the same time, it feels like we've been away forever. Have to say I am looking forward to coming *home* - we miss all our animals and our friends. But what an awesome time we've had, and it's been fun to share it with you all! :-) I can't tell you how fantastic it's been staying here with my friend Marcia ...

Chattanooga - we're here!

Wow! we're here! After jumping through all the security hoops we finally found our way out of the Atlanta airport and were met by my dear friend Marcia, who lives in Chattanooga. Marcia and her hubby Stan live in a beautiful place up on a hill, both Al and I think that our house could fit in her living room!! Yet again we're being ...

Packing it all in

You know those little hand held recording things doctors carry around? They're freaking expensive. I was hoping I could both a) look cool and like I know what I'm doing by having one and/or b) record conversations of german kids that I won't be able to understand so I can translate later. Oh well, throw that idea out the window. In other exciting news I ...

... dollar. The food and wine were delicious. They are very much meat and potatoe eaters. I don't think I will have a better steak ever again. And not too mention, but the McDonalds down there, was fantastic. They used real meat and you actually had to wait on your food, because they prepared fresh. But of course, the other small cities that we visited were very third world. All in all, the trip was undescribable. I hope the pictures ...

Crossin' the Mason-Dixon

Greetings, friends! Today I left my beautiful Nashville, headed North! I left my home at 9am and got in a little after 3pm. I would have arrived sooner, but I got lost a few times and I forgot that I lost an hour in the time difference. (Silly Easter Standard Time!) After meeting my host family (the Gates), unloading my car, and having the family dog running around the yard with some ...
