    Time is getting close for our travels to Italy. We are excited; our adventures will include: Rome, Naples, Sorrento, Pompeii, Florence, Tuscany, Pisa, Venice, Milan and the Italian and Swiss Alps.


    Plane and train tickets have been purchased a well as tickets to several historical sights - Vatican, Academy of the Arts (David) and Uffizi Gallery.

    We spent last night in Lincoln. It is halfway between our last stop outside St. Louis, and Chicago.
    After we left Collinsville, we took a detour to Alton, a town on the Missip where there are locks for river boats. We spent about an hour watching a barge towing one barge 3 boats wide up the river a tad, then another came into the lock. Once the water level had risen, the gates opened and ...

    Finally back in Bloomington. It's been a long 24-hour journey back, but I'm finally here. I can't wait to get home and see all my friends and family (and all my cats and dog that I've missed so much too!)

    ... war, he was elected Governor of Ohio. Hayes never wanted to be President. He went so far as to tell everyone he would only serve one term, thus he would not be indebted to anyone. And true to his word, he only ran and served one term. He seemed to be a calming influence after the war and scandals of the Grant administration.
