Unfortunately, Minnesota is still reeling from the government shutdown (have yet to meet a Minnesotan who agrees with the whole ordeal). This means no state parks or rest areas = no entrance to Gooseberry Falls or Split Rock Lighthouse State Parks. ... a decision much easier. Once I did that, it was better. Having missed out on Ireland in May I was really itching for Europe. I hadn't been to Europe since my 2009 trek through Italy.
