Tango, steak and wine in the gorgeous Buenos Aires

We had an overnight bus ride from Salta to BA - 22 hours seems like nothing nowadays, especially on the fancy buses and nice paved roads of Argentina. It feels a world away from the "roads" and raining buses of Bolivia. Buenos Aires is like no other city in South America. It feels really European but in an Argentinian way, if that makes sense! It's extremely welcoming and feels very alive. It's got lots of districts which are all very different and ...

Next day was more real desert driving...if I can remember correctly we drove to a lot of lagoons..got to see flamingos...weird to see them in this kinda of setting. Next day was up at the crack of dawn...might I mention how incredible the stars were out there... and we were off to a hot spring...which I maned up and got in...thank god ...

... where Eva Peron is buried. (You may recall her from Evita the movie, which is the story of her rise to power.) There were hundreds of the most ornate mausoleums (burial buildings) we've ever seen. We are struck by the mix of old and new in this city, as well as stunning statues, fountains and momuments at major street intersections. The European influences are undeniable. Most apartments of window boxes ...

Last week in South America!

... painting, with benches out in the middle of a river! It was definitely nice to get out of the city for a day and see a bit more nature, see what surrounds the city! I had to rush back to BA after the tour because I had plans with Edouard (who I had met in Patagonia!) He was heading back to France the next day. Another goodbye... Back at the hostel they were having a big asado. I ended up eating a ton of delicious meat, chicken, and sausage with a big group of ...

Be careful what you wish for

... Caminito, the rest you are advised to steer clear of. The pedestrianised streets are lined with corrugated-metal buildings painted, originally, with the left over paint from the ships. Pictures are now up on www.flickr.com/photos/bongo76 if you want to see. We got back to the hostel around 6pm, totally knackered from the heat. Jo was keen to cram in as much as she could before she left for Mendoza so we both signed up ...

Deciding where to go ...

Diciembre. Calor.
