... extreme we think! Last small stop along this stretch before Springfield, Illinois is Atlanta. The story behind this place is quite amazing. Atlanta began as the settlement of Newcastle in 1854. Unfortunately the location of this small village was over a mile away from the railroad tracks and the station stop known as Zenia. Town fathers decided to do something about this. They couldn't move the railroad so they did the next ...

Thursday Kent picked up Riley. He was so happy to see us and get on the road. First we took a short ride over to James and Kathy Vitalo's house. They wanted to see our trailer. They have a VW westphalia that is being renovated . For those of you that don't know James, ...

... food stop opened in 1946, the Gemini Giant at Wilmington, two brilliantly restored gas stations and a maple sirup (correct sp!) shop which marked the halfway point in Illinois.

200 miles took nearly 6 hours due to regular photo ops and diversions. We arrived in the State Capital exhausted but elated. We had driven on the right in our automatic Chevy, negotiated Stop signs (everyone stops and then takes turns!) and were delighted to be on the road on our journey. What an excellent ...

          ... for awhile.

We stopped at several quirky places along the way, buying souvenirs, taking photos and just coming to terms with the fct that we were finally riding this amazing road we had heard so much about.

We stopped at Pontiac and took photos of the museum, inside and out; the hotdog giant and then headed off to lunch place called "Kicks" in Towanda.

We continued onto Springfield, via Hall's Harley Davidson shop and then onto the hotel. We were ...
