Yet another set of quiet days. We headed in the right direction to skip construction traffic. Also, after some looking we managed to find a spot to stop for Southern Food (family here always goes for chains, this time I wanted to actually have some so we stopped BEFORE hand). Mary's Southern Kitchen, I think was the name. Very good, and very happy we stopped, also managed to get a lunch for the next day out of it (thanks to the amount of food).

... I felt like I had stepped back in time. There were no other houses, cars or people in sight only lots of lovely animals. The dog Deuce and goat came up to the verandah to greet us and Freddie was immediately entertained...thank God! The donkeys, horses, goats and sheep all came to the fence to be fed every evening. The main gate is painted the blue and gold colors of the Blue Angels. I kick myself now. I continued following 292/Gulf Breeze Parkway to Perdido Key Drive, also 292, for miles of beautiful riding along the beach. My stomach started telling ...

... in to top off our tanks and check the weather. We decided riding on to Austin was too ambitious. We were tired and hungry by now and decided to call ahead to get rooms at the Best Western in Giddings, TX. So on to Giddings we rode literally into the Texas sunset. We got to the hotel at 8:15, exactly 12 hours after we left Mobile. We took showers and dinned at the only restaurant in walking distance - Taco Bell.

But, I'll bet it will be sunny and warm tomorrow!!

... is the fact that it is in the middle of a major roadway (US 90) and has withstood 18 hurricanes without being destroyed although Katrina did more damage than the others.

After visiting the Visitors Center, we made our way down the street to Beauvoir (which is French for "Beautiful View"), Jefferson Davis' home and the site of his Presidential Library. It is a small house of grand design (built over 150 yrs ago). Jefferson was the third owner and he ...
