Southern Ohio is not heavy on interesting sights worth a
stop as you’re crossing the state by that route. One, though, is Hopewell
Culture National Historical Park, an archaeological and interpretive site of
ancient Native American mound building cultures which inhabited the Mississippi
and Ohio Valley regions. The Mound City Group is the ost significant of several
sites in the area near the town of Chillicothe, but there’s really not much to

We returned our Budget truck to a dealer this morning and got our loaded bikes out. Wow, another learning curve. The front of the bikes seem so heavy, we wobbled and wobbled and wobbled down the road. The cars are terrified of us for a change. We had to relearn balance with heavy packs. We had to relearn shifting. I went 5 miles before I remembered I had three front sprockets on ...

... all night about losing a day of riding. I was hoping to get to see Debbie, but with all our planning and getting ready, she was too far away. We traveled back and forth between Ohio River towns to find topo maps. From big box retailer to sports stores and eventually the public library, we struck out until we went into the C store within a wedge of our motel and there we found Delorme's Ohio. Now we can plot on a map what we've got in text form ...

The return happens. We are back in Louisville, truck rental, storage shed to pick up bikes, close out rental agreement, and we are off. Scott has chosen a route longitudinally exact, (he could have fudged a few miles), north of Kentucky.
Kentucky was beautiful, but holds much anxiety for us. We went home, for the twins, for a severe morning sickness daughter, and for an end of another daughters' marriage. We had been prompted for weeks with uneasiness, when we finally listened ...
