We skip breakfast at the hotel this morning to get to Piazza San Marco before the rest of the tourists are awake. The only people we see are sweeping up after last night's crowds and vendors getting ready to open their shops. We are happy to wander around the square unrestricted by throngs of other people and spend a fair amount of time shooting the angles and details in the square.

Still too early for the cafes, we board ...

Only one tour today but good fun on a larger boat and out of the main city of Venice to two islands in the lagoon.
Firstly went to Murano Island where we saw glass being melted and formed into amazing shapes. In particular the life size pelicans were breathtaking. Day 2 involved a lengthy waterbus ride from head to tail of said fish and then up around the back end to what is known as the Venice lagoon where several islands can be found. Off the beaten track with fewer tourists and very lovely. We stopped at two places, Murano and then 40 minutes further, the island ...

... up a little glass bird. We went to Torcello on trip 2, but got there about 20 min before the few tourist-y things closed, so really didn't get to do much there. But Burano - for someone like me who likes to take photos - it is a dream. The bright colours contrasting with the blue skies, the laundry hanging to dry (I think they are contractually obliged to hang out white laundry for the tourists to take ...

Last day in Venice, Doge Palace

... of what to do with the morning, I was adamant I wanted to explore these medieval buildings, (tanty time), Womby was adamant he wasn't going to wait in line.

We walked past a building that was open, and it was a building we always walked past on the way to San Marco Piazza. Walking so close to it I didn't realise we were walking under this massive palace that we had admired from a distance. So, me being ****** off & unable to articulate why, ...
