      ... also read about the crabs which, during mating season, scurry frantically back and forth across the road, filling it up with their scuttling robotic-looking bodies, at risk of being crushed but also puncturing bicycle tires. I didn't think it was mating season, but we were psyched for that too. We were carrying several bottles of water and a little bread and cheese that we had packed from the buffet.

      ... here, such as the German couple who were travelling on old German folding bikes. They had toured central and eastern Cuba the year before, and then gave the bikes to the family they stayed with in Havana for their use, on the condition that they could use the bikes for their trip this year.

      Around 3:00, we were able to check into our room—seaside cabana #19. What a treat to be on the beach! That night the sunset was spectacular, the stars brilliant.
