... because we did not understand their map. When we booked in i asked about getting to Mont St Michael the receptionist told us there was only one bus a day and it did not return untill after our train was scheduled to leave to Paris tomorrow..another dissapointment. We could not book in untill 4:00 so we left our bags in the luggage room and walked along the beach to the old part of town, which was an ...
... the abbey there isn’t a whole lot to see at Mont St. Michel, it’s very touristy. We really lucked out with the weather this past weekend, it rained a little when we were walking around, but it definitely poured when we were driving. Someone was watching out for us.
Saint-Malo, Brittany, France liz.swind... round of Affligate please!
Awoke early to freshly brewed coffee and cereal in bed - can't have eggs everyday! Kim convinced me to go for a run later today and not this morning - her reason she was hungry, but I think she was just being lazy :) Not 100% sure what lay ahead today as we had only planned as far as Vitre, which is said to revial Dinan in the mediavel town alure.
Moules, Moules, Moules eveywhere. As we drove towards our next desination the road was littered with stalls of mussels and oysters, infact this region produces 4,000 tonnes of oysters annually...guess what is on the menu for lunch! 1kg mussels and 1/2 dozen oysters for the princely sum of 6 Euro. Can't say we are missing ...
Cancale, Brittany, France darrenhough74Taking the direct route for a change we drove onto Le Mont Saint Michel where had decided to stay for the night. We arrived just before sunset and secured a park at the start of the causeway in direct view of the Mont. I went out to take some photos in the last of the light while Kim prepared some nibbles and popped open a bottle of rose. Together we watched the sun go down and was rewarded by a be pretty red/pink sunset.
After dinner we went for a walk ...
... About half an hour away was Omaha Beach with the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial. I was temporarily back in America because France gave that small piece of land to the U.S. so the U.S. owns it and takes care of it. The cemetery was huge. Small white marble crosses stretched on and on. There were a couple monuments set up too. The ...
Le Mont-St-Michel, France addicted2travel... the abbey, and the beach surrounding the city, was enough to satisfy me and it was absolutely worth visiting in spite of its long distance from Paris. When I got out of the abbey, I met a group of school excursion. They were probably elementary school kids. They must be very lucky to have a chance to visit Mont St. Michel for just a school excursion. I couldn't find ...
