We left very early and drove to the end of Cape Hatteras to catch our first ferry. It was a short ride, only about an hour long. It dropped us at the top of Ocracoke Island and then we drove across this island where we waited for the long ferry ride (about 3 hours) to the mainland. There is only one ferry running today.
