Cienfuegos, Cuba chavo14Stayed for 2 nights but not much to do here, slept in a velvet den and were served food swimming in oil for breakfast and dinner. Wandered around the town, more touristy than the last few stops, and bought some souvenirs. Nice architecture and a long promenade walk along the sea to Punto Gorda, then a horse and cart ride back. Big thunderstorm the next day so played alot of cards and dominoes with our host´s grandson (who cheated alot!) and caught up on some sleep.
Cienfuegos, Cuba chicas-latinasCienfuego

After 3 days in Vinales we were more than ready to move on. We got the bus to Cienfuegos which had been recommended to us by the New Zealander we met in Havana. Actually we ran into him again in Vinales. Since it is on the coast, (well we thought it was), we thought we might finally get some beach action. I hadn't even had a chance to use the bathers I bought in Ecuador in the salt water yet!

The bus dropped us ...
Cienfuegos, Cuba lingo83When I was growing up, whenever Cuba was mentioned, The Bay of Pigs and the Cuban missile crisis would be mentioned in the same breath. And as the years have rolled by, I still haven't learnt really much about it, but as it is mentioned in the book, we thought the best thing would be is to experience it for ourselves

Playa Giron

We had a fair drive to get there, 70 K's through a national park. There use to be crocodiles, but they ...
Playa Girón, Matanzas, Cuba uncle_davrosIt was time to leave Havana, there were other pastures waiting to be discovered, and before we had left London, a car had been booked, so we knew we had a way out.

The Drive

We had bought a road directory so we thought it would be easy, but we had used that word thought, which doesn't always work. We managed to drive for five minutes before we were lost, the road signs here are bad !!! Once on track, once again we got lost. This ...

Cienfuegos, Cienfuegos, Cuba uncle_davrosHi everyone, Well this was just a little of what our trip was like. We were greeted at the airport by Salsa Dancers and Cuban music, a very friendly and warm welcome!! Our Resort twas the Barcelo, it was great and the newest of all the Hotels on the Strip. We had our own little Bungalo not too far from the pool and dining hall-convienient!! The 1st day there we just wondered around to check out all the facilities, and walked a little on the beach and relaxed ...
Cayo Largo, Cuba alicat_1... black Plymouth.

Alas, the chances of that happening were about as high as an army of crabs crossing the road back to Trinidad casualty-free, and we completed the last leg of our journey to Havana in the familiar practicality of the Hyundai.

We had chosen to spend our last nights in Havana in a slightly different part of town than on arrival and, though we had some difficulty with road works and one-way ...
Cienfuegos, Cienfuegos, Cuba troywilkinsonApril 17, 1961 - Playa Giron, Cuba Frogmen came ashore at 2:00AM. Their objective was to set up lights to show where the main assault force could land. At 2:30AM, approximately 1,300 CIA-supported counter-revolutionaries stormed the beaches of Cuba. Their goal was to rid the island nation of its new President, Fidel Castro, and restore democracy. But the military loyal to Castro were lying in wait. Many of the invaders were captured or killed in the ensuing battle. Some escaped into the ...
Cayo Largo, Cuba jackdrury... usually love to react to: I get massive red spots wherever a mosquito bites me... They are also a lot of crabs from the lagoon who come out at night, and our room is a little bit off the center of the hotel, so we gotta watch where we step lol They are huge! Our room is very nice, very simple, but through the decoration it makes it just lovely :) We also have a hammack on the balcony, facing the sea, so that's nice. My mom made the reservation as "honeymoon" lol So we got a ...
