... the door actually been open. All of the locals seemed to know each other and an onlooking man rang Boris (landlord) who came, in his own good time, to let us in. Initially, the apartment looked great-much bigger than Dubrovnik, separated kitchen area and sofa; upon slightly closer inspection however and the shine wore off-exposed plugs sockets, no lock on "roof terrace" door and a totally lack of cleaning since the last residents AKA mugs of tea on the side amongst other ...

... enjoyed it anyway. We had a fantastic lunch at a place outside (all of our meals except one in Croatia so far, and I'm typing this on Thursday, have been al fresco). We started with housemade goats cheese (not like what we'd call goat cheese at home, but like Croatian feta) and K had the polenta gratin with olives, tomatoes and cheese and I had the special of the day - Homemade pasta with octopus. It was all excellent, and the total, including beers, was less than $35. ...

... back on our bikes and powered off again, this time along gravel, uphill it was hard to get traction and most of us reluctantly had to resort to walking our bikes once again. A little more gravel and then a bitumen hill before it was the steep 8% gradient back down into town. I was sure to take it easy as I did not want to finish with a spill out the front of our hotel.

Today we caught the 8:30am ferry to the island of Hvar which, by all accounts, is the sunniest place in Croatia

It was raining in Split but with the knowledge that Hvar is the sunniest place in Croatia we held out some hope that the weather would be different at the other end of the 2 hour ferry ride.

We arrived in Hvar to wet ground and overcast skies, indeed, it rained on the bus ride from Stari Grad to Hvar Town.
