To the Cinque Terre

Today we will leave Varenna and Lake Como to go to the CInque Terre by train -

and stay in one of the five Cinque Terra cities - Manarola. Here we have chosen a more upscale type of accommodation so hopefully it will be worth it!

Dinner will be at Trattoria il porticciolo

My travelling companion

Travelling alone has great joys and a few downsides. Sharing memorable sights are communicated to my trusty camera and will soon be stored on the laptop and backed up on a memory stick. But what about experiences that defy the storage on digital media?

Well as kit and caboodle was being packed, somebody stowed away buried in the depths ...

Mainly boy's stuff today!

Just how brilliant is the Internet? Sitting in my hotel room on a cold, wet and windy day in Genoa I have been to Spain, Canada, the States and sunny warm Jamaica. I have intended for ages to research the places I am visiting because I cannot guarantee that I will have Internet access in the ports I visit. Contrary to popular belief, there is no...

The start of my ocean wandering

Arrived in Genoa last Monday 8th Feb as the ship (Zim Ontario) was originally due in today (10th Feb) and it is expected you are in the port ready to roll so to speak just in case the ship is early. This is a containership that carries passengers, so the priority is containers, not pax! Still, flight booked and hotel sorted to find that the ship...

Italy - Day 5 - Riomaggori & Lerici

Italy - Day 5 - Riomaggori & Lerici 29th September 2008 Our last full day in Cinque Terre and we decided to have a bit of a later start. We walked from Manarola to Riomaggori, the last part of the walking trail we hadn't done - known as the walk of love. It was a newer, paved path and it soon became evident that this was a more popular secti...

Vernazza

My first impression of Italy was really good, as we started out the trip in Vernazza Italy. It is a beautiful small town built into the mountains, right on the ocean. We were fortunate enough to go to a marble quarry near where Michelangelo visited to personal select his medium for sculpting. There seems to be so much culture in Italy, especiall...

Cinque Terre

Hello again, So after our relaxing time in Florence, we headed out early for a quick stop in Pisa to see the leaning tower...and boy, was it ever leaning!!! It's amazing how much it leans, and that people would actually pay to go up it! Obviously, we did not go up the tower because a) it cost an arm and a leg, b) they only let a certain amount o...
